Safeguarding Access to Research Datasets

Data Preservation Efforts and Data Sources resource guide

Nominate an at-risk dataset

Request assistance securing your research data

Below is a message sent to all faculty and research staff at the university on March 6, 2025.

Colleagues,

The university continues to monitor the potential impact of federal actions on our research enterprise, including the potential loss of access to datasets and websites used by GW researchers. Stable access to datasets needed for research activities is essential to supporting the GW research enterprise. The Data Preservation Efforts and Data Sources resource guide provides up-to-date guidance on alternative sources where data is being preserved and information on ongoing efforts to help researchers locate and preserve essential datasets. On this guide, you will also find links to nominate an at-risk dataset for preservation and to request assistance securing your own research data

The Research Data Management Task Force (RDM) is a cross-university collaboration between Libraries and Academic Innovation, Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library, GW Information Technology, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, and the Office of Ethics, Compliance, and Risk. The RDM is actively working to secure, preserve, and share datasets to ensure long-term accessibility. They are collaborating across institutions to ensure long-term stability and increase access to critical research data.

If you have questions about data preservation initiatives at GW or need support accessing or preserving data, please contact the Research Data Management Task Force at rdmhelp@gwu.edu.
