Web Archives Program

GW Libraries selects and archives websites relevant to library collection development initiatives, primary sources held by the Special Collections Research Center, and current research and teaching. We also collect websites affiliated with the University as part of our mission to serve as the official repository for records of the George Washington University. 

The web is continually changing and each day content disappears. To capture this history for future researchers, the web archive contains snapshots of selected websites, collected at regular points in time. We use Archive-It, a service provided by the Internet Archive, for web archiving.

Using GW Web Archives

GW Web Archives collections are open to the public. Data collected by the GW Web Archives is accessible via GW’s Archive-it collection portal. For more information on how to search and explore the collections, please see: Using GW Web Archives.

GW Web Archives Request

Any member of the GW community may submit a web archives request. If you have a webpage you would like to archive, please contact us to submit a request.

GW Web Archives Collecting Areas 

• George Washington University
  Websites produced by or affiliated with the George Washington University, documenting the administration, publications, policies, events, and announcements of the university community.
• Corcoran Gallery of Art and Corcoran College of Art + Design
  Websites describing the degree programs, resources, admissions, and administration and faculty of the Corcoran College of Art + Design prior to its merger with George Washington University in 2014. Also includes the website of Corcoran Gallery of Art prior to its closing in 2014.
• Washingtoniana
  Websites complimenting GW Libraries' Washington, D.C.-related collections. Topics covered include the arts (with a focus on poetry), culture, and politics.
• National Education Association (NEA)
  Websites created by or affiliated with the National Education Association (NEA), including those related to NEA membership and leadership, press releases, publications, and caucuses, as well as websites related to education advocacy.
• International Brotherhood of Teamsters
  Websites related to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters labor union, featuring Teamsters Magazine, press releases and articles, videos, and organizational and member information.
• Global Resources Center Web Archive
  Websites chronicling both English and foreign-language publications, blogs, organizations, and movements originating outside the United States.
