Renew Books

All users have several options when it comes to renewing library materials that you have checked out:

Renew Online

Go to My Library Account or see the instructions for using Online Renewal

Renew by Email

Send an email to librcir@gwu.edu. Include your library barcode or university ID number and the barcodes of the books you wish to renew.

Renew by Telephone

Call (202) 994-6840. When prompted, please be prepared to give your library barcode or university ID number and the barcodes of the books you wish to renew.

Renew in Person

Bring in each book you wish to renew to the Check Out Desk.

Renewal Policies

All borrowers are eligible to renew items provided:

  • Their library accounts are clear of fines and fees in excess of $25.
  • Their books do not have outstanding holds or recall requests from other patrons.

Renewal Limits

For all GW and WRLC (Consortium) Books, Renewal Limit = 3

Any circulating book from the libraries in the GW Libraries (or any other library in the WRLC) may be renewed 3 times. Once you reach the renewal limit of 3, you must bring the books in person to the check out desk of any of the consortium schools - then if you still need the books, we will start the check-out process over for you and you will have 3 additional renewals.

For Interlibrary Loan Material, Renewal Limit = 1

Most material obtained through Interlibrary Loan (from libraries outside of the WRLC consortium) may be renewed one time online via My Library Account for two weeks - these items will be specifically designated as Interlibrary Loan materials on My Online Library. For additional information, please see the Interlibrary Loan page.
