All users have several options when it comes to renewing library materials that they have checked out:
Renew Online
Go to My Library Account to renew books online. View our tutorial for instructions on using online renewal.
Renew by Email
Send an email to librcir@gwu.edu. Include your library barcode or university ID number and the barcodes of the books you wish to renew. Note: Only GW materials can be renewed by email. To renew books from other consortium libraries, please contact the supplying library.
Renew by Telephone
Call (202) 994-6840. When prompted, be prepared to give your library barcode or university ID number and the barcodes of the books you wish to renew. Note: Only GW materials can be renewed by phone. To renew books from other consortium libraries, please contact the supplying library.
Renewal Policies
You are eligible to renew items provided:
- Your library account is clear of fines and fees totaling $25 or more.
- Your books do not have outstanding holds or recall requests from other library users.
Renewal Limits
For all GW and WRLC (Consortium) Books, Renewal Maximum: 168 days
Any circulating book from the GW Libraries (Gelman, Eckles or VSTC Library), or any other partner library in the Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC), may be renewed a maximum of 168 days (112 days if your original loan length is 28 days). Once you reach the maximum allotted time, you must bring the books in person to the Check Out desk. If you still need the books, we will start the checkout process over for you.
For Interlibrary Loan Materials, Renewal Limit = 0 or 1 renewal
Some items obtained through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) from libraries outside of the WRLC may be renewed one time, if their owning library allows. Others are not renewable. Eligibility for renewal will be shown on the blue sleeve attached to your ILL item.
If your ILL item is eligible for renewal, please email ILL@gwu.edu to make a renewal request. For additional information, please see the Interlibrary Loan page.
