Building access is available to GW students, faculty, and staff who have completed all of the steps outlined on GW's Onward website. No one will be allowed to sign in without a physical GWorld card or enter the library if their GWorld card tap is denied. Library access is not available for alumni or visitors. Masks are required inside all library buildings.

Conduct Guidelines

Members of the GW community are responsible for adhering to and acting in accordance with university policies. GW students, faculty, and staff are expected to uphold GW community standards or face the consequences as stated in their relevant handbooks, policies, and contracts. 

Any visitor found to have committed misconduct is subject to immediate expulsion from the library building or event. Multiple acts of misconduct and especially egregious acts may result in a permanent ban from library buildings.

The university reserves the right to bar from university property or facilities any non-university affiliated person to whom the university does not wish to allow access. Further, any person, whether affiliated with the university or not, who is determined to be violating applicable laws or university policies, procedures or practices, may be barred from university property or facilities as a consequence of their actions.

The following are examples of misconduct in a library building or event:

  • Intoxication, underage drinking, distribution or use of illegal drugs.
  • Destroying or damaging university property, including library holdings.
  • Theft of property or of services.
  • Harassment of any kind toward library patrons or staff, including physical or verbal assault, yelling, threats, etc.  
  • Making excessive noise, including by shouting, pounding objects or surfaces, or playing music or other electronics at a loud volume.
  • Acting in a manner that annoys, disturbs, threatens, endangers, or harasses others.
  • Disrupting, obstructing, or interfering with the activities of others.
  • Behaving in a lewd or indecent manner.
  • Interfering with any normal university or university-sponsored events, including but not limited to studying, teaching, research, university administration, fire, police, or emergency services.
  • Failure to comply with reasonable directions of university officials acting in performance of their duties.
  • Engaging in conduct that is likely to cause physical harm.
  • Engaging in any type of unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature.
  • Entering or remaining on or in any part of any university premises without proper authorization.
  • Violation of federal, state and/or local law.
  • Use, possession, or storage of any firearms, ammunition, knives, other weapons, or objects that could be construed as weapons. Items that pose a potential hazard to the safety or health of others are also prohibited.
