The Gelman Library building is closed for a significant HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system maintenance project. Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library remains available for students and faculty of SMHS, GWSPH, and SON. For faculty and for students enrolled in summer courses at other GW schools, the Burns Law Library is available through August 10, 2026.

Media Resources from GW Libraries

More than 6,000 media titles are available to GW students, faculty, and staff, including educational media materials, feature films, award-winning documentaries, and GW-produced multimedia resources. 

  • Streaming video titles are linked through the library’s catalog: GW Libraries Streaming Videos
  • Many DVDs are located on the first floor of Gelman Library, and more are available from other sites.
  • Most media items can be borrowed at the Check Out desk on the entrance floor during operating hours. Learn details about borrowing materials.

Media Reserves Procedures

Viewing VHS and DVDs

A combination DVD and VCR (VHS) player is available on the 1st floor of Gelman Library (see below for a map of the 1st floor.) The player is available any time Gelman is open. Windows computers in the CREATE Digital Studio also have Blu-ray drives that will play DVDs. If you need assistance with the CREATE computers or the stand-alone player, please go to the CREATE Digital Studio desk.
