Dr. Karen Singer-Freeman is the Associate Dean of Teaching and Learning Excellence overseeing the Center for Teaching Excellence. She received her Ph.D. in Cognitive Developmental Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Institute of Child Development. Her research examines educational interventions that support student success. Dr. Singer-Freeman directs the Grand Challenges in Assessment in Higher Education Project, is the external evaluator for the Physics and Astronomy Faculty Teaching Institute, provides research support for an NSF IUSE grant, and provides presentations and workshops on assessment, AI use in Higher Education, scholarship of teaching and learning, and strategic planning. She previously served as the Director of Research in the Center for the Advancement of Teaching at Wake Forest University, the Director of Academic Planning and Assessment in the Office of Assessment and Accreditation at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and as a tenured Associate Professor and Department Chair of Psychology at Purchase College, State University of New York. Dr. Singer-Freeman received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching was named a Scientific Thinking and Integrative Reasoning Scholar by the Association of American Colleges and Universities and an Assessment Influencer by the Assessment Institute.
