About this opportunity
What concrete actions can you take to improve equity and inclusion in a course? This Faculty Learning Community is exploring this question by reading Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom and implementing and assessing changes in their Spring 2025 courses. This learning community is currently underway.
Goals and expectations
The goals of this FLC are three-fold:
- To develop instructor expertise in equitable and inclusive pedagogy
- To build community around equitable and inclusive teaching across GW schools and programs
- To increase the extent to which all students feel welcome and fairly treated in their courses
Participants will be expected to:
- Attend all scheduled learning community meetings
- Complete assigned readings before meetings
- Create a plan to enhance equity and inclusion in a Spring 2025 class, and evaluate the impact of the change on equity or inclusion in this class
- Produce a deliverable. This could be:
- An annotated syllabus and reflection on the impact of the identified change
- A revised assignment description and rubric
- A publication in a disciplinary teaching journal
- A conference presentation
- A Faculty Development workshop that you will deliver in Fall 2025
- Anything else you can think of, subject to approval
