Research Services Librarian for Undergraduate Research

The George Washington University Libraries & Academic Innovation (GWLAI) seeks nominations and applications for a librarian responsible for facilitating and promoting undergraduate research. 

Primary job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty throughout the campus and staff in the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), the Center for Undergraduate Fellowships and Research, as well as other GWLAI staff and librarians to identify opportunities for undergraduate students to engage with faculty research projects

  • Work with associate deans for research in each of GW’s ten schools to promote opportunities for undergraduates to engage in research projects

  • Maintain guidelines for different approaches to supporting undergraduate research (e.g. paid, unpaid for-credit, etc.)

  • Identify external research opportunities for students, e.g. National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) and other programs

  • Build connections and strong relationships with other GW areas (schools, labs and centers) involved in research

  • Collaborate with others in GWLAI and at GW providing fellowship and other research opportunities

  • In collaboration with GWLAI colleagues and others, including those supporting research, data, and scholarly technologies, develop and deliver programming to enable students to be successful researchers

  • Create a community of students, faculty and other researchers to support the development of undergraduate research competencies such as analyzing data, developing research plans and preparing research grant proposals

  • Conduct library instruction for undergraduate and graduate level courses in partnership with faculty, including partnering with GW’s first-year University Writing Program

  • Support students, staff, and faculty via research consultations, library instruction, and workshops across disciplines

  • Contribute to one or more strategic services or teams in GWLAI. Areas of focus include supporting scholarly communications, increasing college affordability through the adoption of Open Educational Resources (OERs), and digital and computational fluency

  • Contribute to the broader professional community by sharing knowledge in scholarly/professional venues and through service to the University and the profession

This position reports to a Director of Research Services.
