During operating hours, building access is available to GW students, faculty, and staff who have completed all of the steps outlined on GW's Onward website. No one will be allowed to sign in without a physical GWorld card or enter the library if their GWorld card tap is denied. Library access is not available for alumni or visitors. Masks are required inside all library buildings.

Scanning, Copying, and Microforms

Scanners (Gelman)

There are four dedicated scanning stations near the Ask Us Desk on the entrance floor. You can scan to your USB, Email, smartphone, Google Drive, or Dropbox from these scanning stations.

Photocopiers (Gelman)

Self-service photocopiers are available on floors 2 and 7. To make photocopies a patron must have:

  • a GWorld card
  • a courtesy card with sufficient funds to copy. Courtesy cards are available for purchase from a Valueport machine located on Levels 2 and 3. The card itself costs $1. The machines only accepts bills. Once you have a card, you can use the Valueport to add bills to the card in order to copy.

GWorld users can also use the Valueport to add funds onto their GWorld card, or you may add money using a credit card online on the GWorld site.

Copies cost $0.07 per printed page.


Microform readers and printers are located on the 3rd floor. ScanPro 2000 Microform Readers are connected to computers in the two carrels closest to the microform cabinets; these computers are dedicated to scanning and printing. There is also a microform reader and printer in the Special Collections department on the 7th floor.

Microform copies cost $0.07.

Gworld Cards and Courtesy Cards

You can pay for copies using your Gworld card. To add money to your Gworld card, visit gworld.gwu.edu or add money using the Valueport machines near the copiers and microfilm scanners on floors 2 and 3 of Gelman Library.

If you do not have a GWorld Card or did not bring it with you, you may purchase a courtesy card to photocopy your documents. 

Courtesy cards are available for purchase from Valueport machines located on floors 2 and 3 of Gelman Library. A courtesy card costs $1. Once you have a card, you can use the Valueport machines to add money to your card. Valueport machines only take bills.

Photocopying Refund Policy

The library does not issue refunds or credits for copies. Ask for help before making multiple copies.
