Background:
The Dean of Libraries and Academic Innovation and Vice Provost for Libraries and Information Technology is responsible for enriching the academic experience of scholars at GW both through maintaining excellence in library services and collections and providing access to cutting-edge technology. Geneva also leads GWIT and oversees the transition of GW’s IT infrastructure, working to align IT more closely with the university’s research, education, and clinical services. The dean contributes to the success of the university's strategic plan by generating, making accessible, and preserving new knowledge.
In her position as the Dean of Libraries and Academic Innovation, Geneva is responsible for planning, directing and overseeing all operations of the GW Libraries, the Center for Teaching Excellence, Academic Commons, the Center for Undergraduate Fellowships and Research, and the online education programs at GW. Together, these areas provide the core academic support that enables research and education success at GW. GWLAI staff and librarians work together across these areas to accomplish the university’s mission, creating a highly collaborative, dynamic and deeply engaged GW community.
Before coming to GW, Geneva was the executive director for Rice University's Digital Library Initiative. Her career prior to Rice includes 18 years of applied research and development in digital libraries, text search, natural language processing, expert systems, and complex systems integration at IBM, TRW, and the RAND Corporation. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science from California State University, Los Angeles; a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara; and an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington.
