Learn Linux Shell

Learn Linux Shell

Using the Linux shell is essential to the use of powerful tools and computing resources. Software Developer Dan Kerchner will get you started using the shell to interact with Linux computers. Knowledge of this swiss-army knife of a tool will provide you with the background needed to use many powerful tools for research and data analysis.

No prior programming knowledge is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders. This workshop is useful for anyone interested in programming and web related work or those who need to manipulate data.

Please bring a laptop to this workshop. If you’re bringing a Windows laptop, please install PuTTY from www.putty.org beforehand. If you don’t have a laptop, we will have a few extra on hand.

This workshop is part of the Build Your Skills Workshop Series, which features practical, hands-on instruction in useful skills you may not learn in class. Other workshops in this Fall 2017 series are Programming with Python, Collaborating Using Github, Learn Linux Shell, Working with Secure Technologies, Using Google Forms, Google Drive: File Management & Beyond, Crossing the Finish Line: Uploading Your Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD), Study Less….Learn More: Understanding the New Science of Learning, and Intro to 3D Modeling with Tinkercad. All sessions will be first-come, first served.
