Getting Data from APIs using Python

Getting Data with APIs

APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are a powerful tool for for collecting information for analysis or to use in another application.

In this hands-on workshop, learn:

* How to read API documentation
* Use Python in an online Colaboratory notebook to access an API
* Use Python libraries including requests, json, and csv
* How to handle pagination

It is helpful to have prior exposure to Python, such as through the "Programming with Python" workshop. Bring a laptop for this hands-on workshop. No installation of Python is needed.

This workshop is part of the Programming and Coding series for those interested in enhancing their skills in web or software development, coding and scripting, and automating processes to retrieving or cleaning data. Other workshops in this Spring 2019 series are Introduction to Getting Data with APIsProgramming with Python (Workshop 1 of 2), Programming with Python (Workshop 2 of 2), A Walk on the R Side: Introduction to R for Data Analysis (Workshop 1 of 2), A Walk on the R Side: R for Data Analysis (Workshop 2 of 2), Introduction to HTML & CSS. If you need personalized assistance with a programming or coding project, consider booking a programming or software development consultation with a member of the Scholarly Technology Group.
