The Gelman Library building is closed for a significant HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system maintenance project. Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library remains available for students and faculty of SMHS, GWSPH, and SON. For faculty and for students enrolled in summer courses at other GW schools, the Burns Law Library is available through August 10, 2026.

NCLC-CCAS Undergraduate Research Fellowship

Applications for this fellowship are paused at this time. 

The National Churchill Leadership Center (NCLC) is pleased to offer a $2,500 Undergraduate Research Fellowship available to a student researcher who works on a topic relevant to contemporary strategies and issues of global leadership. This fellowship is limited to students in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences and is made possible by a gift from alumnus Michael Thacher (BA, Philosophy, 1970). Fellowship projects should be in the form of a written report, multimedia creation, or data visualization.

Fellowship Details

We welcome applications from a broad range of academic disciplines, including but not limited to any major in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. Interested applicants are invited to discuss potential projects with NCLC staff. The stipend will be distributed in one payment during the 2023-2024 academic year. 

Eligibility

Applicants must be currently enrolled GW undergraduate students in the Columbian College of Arts and Science.

Completion Requirements

  • A summary of research or project presentation must be submitted upon completion of the fellowship
  • Awardees are expected to present their work at the end of the fellowship in a public event at the National Churchill Leadership Center at the end of the Spring Semester in 2024
  • All applications will be reviewed by a committee of GW librarians, faculty, and International Churchill Society advisors. Awards will be distributed in one payment at the beginning of the fellowship. Funds can be used to support travel and/or research-related materials.

Application Materials

Applications for this fellowship are paused at this time.  

  • Statement of Interest introducing yourself and explaining your interest in global leadership (250 words maximum)
  • Project proposal outlining your scope of research and how you would utilize the fellowship funding. Please include an anticipated breakdown of costs. (500 words maximum)
  • CV or resume
  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty advisor, sent directly by the recommenders.
