During operating hours, building access is available to GW students, faculty, and staff who have completed all of the steps outlined on GW's Onward website. No one will be allowed to sign in without a physical GWorld card or enter the library if their GWorld card tap is denied. Library access is not available for alumni or visitors. Masks are required inside all library buildings.

Gelman Library

The Gelman Library, on GW's Foggy Bottom Campus, is located at 2130 H Street NW, Washington, DC 20052. The building is on the corner of 22nd and H Streets. Gelman has one entrance and it is located in Kogan Plaza. See Gelman's location on Google Maps

Public Transportation

The closest Metro station is the Foggy Bottom stop on the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines. As you exit the station, turn right and walk one block to the first stoplight (H Street). Turn left and walk 1.5 blocks to the library, which will be on your right. The entrance is located in Kogan Plaza.

From the North: Interstate 95 South to Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) toward Silver Spring/Northern Virginia. Take Exit 33, heading south on Connecticut Avenue for about 9 miles. Turn right onto Florida Avenue, NW (just past the Washington Hilton) and turn left immediately onto 21st Street, NW. Turn right on I Street, NW. 

From the Northwest: Interstate 270 to Interstate 495 (Capital Beltway) toward Silver Spring/Northern Virginia. Take Exit 33, heading south on Connecticut Avenue for about 9 miles. Turn right on I Street, NW. 

From the West: Interstate 66 and Route 50 both connect with the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. Cross the bridge and exit at E Street, then again at Virginia Avenue, NW. Bear left, following signs for 23rd Street, NW. Turn right on 23rd Street, NW, and continue a few blocks to campus. Turn right on I Street, NW. 

From the South: Interstate 395 to Arlington Memorial Bridge exit. Cross the bridge and veer left at the Lincoln Memorial. Turn left on 23rd Street, NW, and continue a few blocks to campus. Turn right on I Street, NW. 

Eckles Library

Eckles Library, on GW's Mount Vernon Campus, is located at 2100 Foxhall Rd, NW, Washington DC, 20007. See Eckles' location on Google Maps

The Ver​n Express

The Vern Express is GW's free shuttle between the Mount Vernon and Foggy Bottom campuses. It runs regularly between campuses, including 24 hours/7 days a week during academic semesters. On the Mount Vernon Campus, the Vern Express picks up in front of Somers Hall, adjacent to the Quad. On the Foggy Bottom Campus, the Vern Express stop is located at Funger Hall (G Street, between 22nd and 23rd St NW).

The Vern Express will resume operation for members of the GW community beginning on August 9, 2021, on a 30-minute schedule. Riders must show their GWorld card when boarding.

Driving Directions

From Foggy Bottom/downtown DC

  • From Washington Circle, go west on K St. (0.25 mi.)
  • Travel west on the Whitehurst Freeway (.75 mi.)
  • Turn left onto Canal Rd, heading west (0.25 mi.)
  • As the road divides, bear right onto Foxhall Rd. (1 mi.)
  • Turn left onto Whitehaven Parkway (you will see a sign for the campus off to your left at the turn)
  • Turn right and enter campus, and the parking garage is the first turn on the left. Information for parking is located on the Transportation site.
  • Eckles Library is a contemporary-looking building, located across the academic quad on the center of campus

Virginia Science and Technology (VSTC) Library

The Virginia Science and Technology Campus (VSTC) Library, located in Ashburn, Virginia, is located in room 179 of Enterprise Hall at 44983 Knoll Square, Ashburn, VA, 20147. See the VSTC Library's location on Google Maps.

Shuttle/Public Transportation

The VSTC Shuttle runs on a limited schedule between Foggy Bottom (Funger Hall at G & 22nd Streets) and each building at the VSTC. Check the VSTC Shuttle website for current hours of operation. An active GWorld card is required for riders.

The Wiehle-Reston East Metro station (located on the Silver Line) is the closest Metro station to the VSTC. The Route 72 Wiehle Express is free for GWorld card holders. It travels between the Wiehle-Reston Metro and multiple points at the VSTC. More information is available on the Wiehle Express website

The Loudoun County Commuter Bus operates morning and late afternoon rush hour service from Loudoun Park and Ride lots to Rosslyn, Crystal City, the Pentagon, and Washington, D.C.
