Deadline(s)

The Sigleman Undergraduate Research Enhancement (SURE) Award is not currently accepting submissions. If you have interest in the SURE Award and would like to be notified when the application portal reopens, please contact Taylor Baugher.

Award Description

GW offers awards of up to $1,000 to support undergraduate research, made possible by a generous endowment from professors Carol and Lee Sigelman. The GW SURE Awards are available to undergraduate students from all majors at GW - including the humanities, arts, sciences, engineering, business, and public health - to fund scientific, scholarly, or artistic research projects.

Award Benefits

Applicants may request up to $1,000, which can be used for various purposes. In their application, students must explain how the proposed use of the award supports their scientific, scholarly, or artistic endeavors.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be undergraduate students at GW
  • Applicants must secure the support of a GW faculty member
  • Recipients may only receive one SURE Award during the academic year
  • Funded research activity must be completed before graduation
  • Research activities and supplies should meet the definition of research (e.g., as defined by the Council on Undergraduate Research) or be approved as such by the faculty mentor

The SURE Award can be used for various research-related expenses, including essential equipment or supplies for a research project, conference registration and related travel, travel to libraries or archives, and costs for videography to document performances. The SURE Award does not cover activities such as event planning or self-funding.

Special Considerations

Students interested in applying to the SURE award are encouraged to schedule a consultation with CUFR to learn more about preparing their research proposal.
