Library Carpentry: Tools for Librarians and Humanists

Library Carpentry: Tools for Librarians and Humanists

In this workshop, we’ll start by getting a grasp on common data and coding jargon, followed by sessions on regular expressions (a mini programming language for pattern matching), OpenRefine (a tool for batch editing textual data), and Python (a general-purpose, user-friendly programming language with lots of applications to textual and data analysis). This is a two-day introductory workshop for anyone interested to learn how to use computational tools in their work or research.

Participants will be able to explore tools for working with text as data at scale; practice basic programming concepts, including variables, conditionals, and loops; and learn best practices for cleaning textual data for analysis.
