This workshop explores grading on an assignment level. We will look at some small but significant ideas for how to make grading more equitable and less onerous for both students and instructors. Then, we will explore how alternative assignments such as open-ended or flipped exam prompts, simulations, research-based creative projects, and multimedia artifacts can promote active learning and critical thinking. We will brainstorm strategies for involving students in the grading process and centering the feedback component of grading.
