CREATE Digital Studio offers several services to help your students learn the appropriate tools and best practices for producing digital media assignments. CREATE’s instructional technologists offer instruction and resources in the following areas:
- Video production and editing
- Motion graphics and visual effects
- Audio recording, editing, and podcasting
- Graphic design
- Photography and image editing
- Basic website design
- Interactive storytelling and media
The next section covers the learning options we offer for courses that have digital media components. Please note that CREATE staff are typically available for class visits during regular office hours (9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday). If your class meets outside of our office hours, we are available to join your class virtually using Zoom or in-person, by special arrangement. Students can also take advantage of one-on-one consultations offered by CREATE’s instructional technologists.
Intro to CREATE
(10 - 20 minutes of class time)
CREATE’s instructional technologists can visit your class to introduce students to our services and resources. This usually includes a tour of CREATE’s website and then a Q&A. You are also happy to host your class in Gelman Library for an in-person tour of CREATE’s spaces, followed by a website overview and Q&A.
Asynchronous Learning Resources
We offer video tutorials on various media production topics including: podcasting, video production, image editing, and more. These tutorials cover both best practices and how to use the format-specific software. We also have production outline documents and resource guides that students can consult as they work on their assignments. These videos and documents can be assigned as homework or additional reading.
Asynchronous Learning Resources w/ Follow-Up Visit
(15 - 30 minutes of class time)
CREATE offers follow-up class visits paired with our asynchronous learning material. This “flipped classroom” approach gives students time to learn and experiment with a digital media tool, and generate questions that they can ask during a class visit from CREATE’s instructional technologists.
In-Class Instruction Session
(30 - 60 minutes of class time)
CREATE instructional technologists can also provide in-class demonstrations of format-specific software and hardware. You are welcome to bring your students to our instruction space in the Gelman Library or we can visit your classroom.
