Instructional Design Librarian

The George Washington University Libraries & Academic Innovation (GWLAI) seeks nominations and applications for a collaborative and service-oriented Instructional Design Librarian.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Sustain and expand intellectual partnerships with faculty and students across the university

  • Conduct library instruction for undergraduate and graduate level courses in partnership with faculty, including partnering with GW’s first-year University Writing Program

  • Contribute to the application of instructional design principles and practice to support teaching and learning initiatives

  • Leverage and develop knowledge of current instructional and educational technologies, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, emerging pedagogies, instructional design, and/or learning theory to design from a student-centered perspective that aims at delivering a highly engaging learning experience 

  • Work collaboratively with GWLAI staff to design and create reusable learning objects, assignments, and activities to support pedagogically sound instruction modules and to enable scaling of instruction

  • Help librarians, staff, and faculty identify, evaluate, and apply technologies essential to the design and delivery of in-person and online instructional services using instructional design expertise and research on student learning

  • Provide professional development opportunities for improving the design and delivery of curriculum-aligned, pedagogically sound, technology-appropriate information literacy learning experiences

  • Collaborate with instructional designers and technologists within GWLAI and across the university to improve the Libraries’ connections to learning support across the institution

  • Support students, staff, and faculty via research consultations, library instruction, and workshops across disciplines

  • Contribute to the broader professional community by sharing knowledge in scholarly/professional venues and through service to the University and the profession

This position reports to a Director of Research Services.
