Services for GW Offices

The University Archives collaborates with GW schools, divisions and administrative offices to preserve and provide access to information of enduring historical or administrative value. The archives aims to preserve GW history created in any format, paper or digital.

We support the GW Records Management Policy by providing storage, access to and management of permanently valuable university records in compliance with the university's Information Sercurity Policy. Some records of enduring historical value that should be transferred to the archives have already been identified in the University Records Schedule. In consultation with the Office of Compliance and Privacy, General Cousnel, and the Division of IT, we help to evaluate additional materials for permanent value and recommend transfers to the archives.

Please contact University Archivist Christie Peterson if you are holding materials that you believe may be of permanent value and you are interested in transferring them. Records received in the archives without recent contact and agreement with the archives may be returned.

If your office produces a print publication, please have two copies sent to the University Archives as part of your normal distribution. If your publication is only available online, please contact the university archives with information about it so that we can archive it.

The archives offer a flexible range of services and expertise at no cost to our GW collaborators, including:

  • Storage, preservation and retrieval of public and nonpublic materials of enduring value
  • Researching historical context and prior GW work to inform current planning, projects and policies
  • Online access to select publications, reports and other sources of public information that have been transferred to the archives
  • Capture and archiving of websites and social media
  • Evaluation of records for historical value
  • Providing access to records in our reading room and remotely
  • Consulting on issues related to records, preservation, GW history and related areas

Please contact the university archives with inquiries about any of these services.
