Preserving Complex Digital Objects to Support Research

This event has already taken place, please don't try to go to it!
Panel Discussion

The preservation of complex digital objects, such as software, simulations, and 3D images, requires substantial knowledge of cutting-edge digital stewardship practices and tools as well as successful communication with the stakeholders for those digital objects/resources. This event features three librarians with experience in this field who will introduce the foundations of software preservation and discuss specific challenges and solutions from their own experiences with architectural file preservation and scientific research objects.

Appropriate for librarians of any technological skill level, the event will last two hours (9:30 AM - 11:30 AM), beginning with three 30 minute presentations followed by a 30 minute panel discussion.

Snacks and coffee will be available starting at 9 AM.

Speakers:

Natalie Meyers (E-Research Librarian, Hesburgh Library, University of Notre Dame, and Partnerships and Collaborations Manager, Center for Open Science) - “Preservation and Access to Scientific Research Objects”;

Kit Arrington (Digital Library Specialist, Prints & Photographs Division, Library of Congress) - “Exploring Preservation Solutions for Digital Architecture, Design and Engineering Objects”;
