This workshop will highlight the utility of historical maps as objects themselves and subjects for research. In this seminar/workshop participants will learn how to make sense of historical maps, georeference them and obtain data from them. This seminar will require some previous experience with GIS software.
This workshop is part of the Visualizing Data with GIS Workshop Series, which offers both introductory and in-depth sessions on using geographic information systems. Other workshops in this Spring 2017 series are Introduction to GIS, Finding GIS Data & Resources, GIS Interface Basics, Completing a Map, Spatial Analysis with QGIS, and Interpreting and Obtaining Data from Historical Maps. All sessions will be first-come, first served.
