An Evening with General David Petraeus

The National Churchill Library and Center hosted a dinner and discussion with General David Petraeus on strategic leadership and current global challenges, and a reflection on Winston Churchill as a leader in war and peace.

General Petraeus, a renowned counterinsurgency expert, served for nearly four decades in the U.S. Army. His commands included coalition forces in Iraq, U.S. Central Command, and coalition forces in Afghanistan. He was widely credited for his leadership of the Surge in Iraq that sharply reduced sectarian violence. Upon his retirement from the military, he took up the post of CIA-Director. The General is a Partner with the global investment firm KKR and the Chairman of the KKR Institute.

Professor Richard Carwardine on Lincoln's Sense of Humor: A Double-Edged Sword

The National Churchill Library and Center hosted Professor Carwardine for a discussion about his upcoming book, Lincoln's Sense of Humor. 

Professor Carwardine was President of Oxford University's Corpus Christi College from 2010 to 2016. He is the author of many books, including the acclaimed biography Lincoln: A Life of Purpose and Power (2007), which won the Lincoln Prize.
